The highlight of this year's season was the roughly 12' tall tree sculptures and people that we would create out of a variety of materials. There were many layers that went into the production of our tree people statues, Apollo and Artemis. Our technical direction team 3d scanned the bodies of a woman and a man, and then CNC'd the 3d scans in layers. The bodies started off looking like a 3d topographical map. We then slowly carved down the bodies to make them better match the rendering and make them less bulky. At the same time we carved from blocks of foam attached to metal structures the tree tops that would sit on top of the statues. They were made from metal, chicken wire, foam, pool noodles, and Great Stuff. We covered all of that, including the vines that we wrapped around the bodies of the people in a variety of fabric, which we attached with liquid cement and textured over with flexbond. We fiberglassed and aqua resined the bodies since they will be used as stock items and spray painted everything with pneumatics. Other parts of the set included textured stucco, flexbond covered scrim used as branches growing on the set, a drop split into panels, and gates painted to look like tarnished metal.
