Winter People was a show set in the Hamptons, on Long Island. It was a show about family roots, facing oppression, and dealing with loss. This show was very heavily inspired by the beaches that provided a safe haven and place of peace for many of the characters in the show. The set had an actual sandpit, which did get all over the theatre a little bit, but provided a really magical, tactile surface for the actors to work with. Throughout the play more and more props were left in the sand, a metaphor both for pollution and how these characters left a little bit of themselves still on the seashore.
