It's not every day one gets to paint a portal to hell: our fiber glass, ruin covered automated dais was an exciting opportunity. We carved it out of pink foam along with two smaller plinths, covered in fiberglass and aqua resin, and did a wet blending/sponging paint treatment to it. The center part was able to go up and down throughout the show, and the fiberglass/aqua resin combination would hopefully help it stay in good shape throughout the 2 month run in an outdoor theater. The set also had really thick textured wood, which we created from texture and large combs. We also covered metal branches in a mixture of burlap and scrim and coated it with jaxsan and flexbond.
